I finally got my bead parcel from the US (I say finally, it was posted on 19th September but it wandered around in the Netherlands for a few days before I got my paws on it). Anyway, in that parcel were some cute bead caps in the shape of teapots, so I decided to make a necklace using them:

I am struggling with my felty pursuits at the moment, as I can’t bring myself to make anything remotely Christmassy. Yes, I know I should be prepared and start making stuff, but it’s September. Sep-tember. Christmas is still months away. I have been jotting down some ideas, and I have some beady makes on my list which will be going in the shop, but which aren’t overly festive. Anyway, I did have a go at something for Halloween – a disco glitter bat brooch. Yes, really:

I haven’t put him in the shop yet, as I made the mistake of forgetting to stitch the brooch back on, so it’s been glued. And I’m worried it won’t be strong enough to hold, so I may end up keeping this one for myself. Proto-disco-glitter-bat-brooch. Yeah, I’ll work on the name.

Next up is a felt aubergine, whose name escapes me at the moment….

I went a bit mad on Sunday and decided to make a felt fortune cookie. And when that worked, I made a few more:

They have real fortunes inside them – I picked the nice ones. They’ve gone in my shop, and I thought I could do custom greetings for birthdays etc. if folks wanted them. No swears, naturally – sweary felt is not my cup of tea at all. Glittery felt might be, though – I bought some this afternoon for ‘future projects’ [/mysterious font]

I would have been posting the link to my video on Youtube, but the inserty video doohicky is broken, and I can’t get the url to work. Meh.

Dawanda has a monthly colour theme and August is Orange, so I was trying to think of something orange to make. I don’t have any orange beads (well, I have some carnelian beads but they’re mine, all mine) so I turned my thoughts to felt. And somehow came up with the idea to make a starfish.

So, first there was Leonard (possibly named after Leonard Rossiter, who popped up in a Pink Panther film we caught a glimpse of yesterday afternoon).

Leonard was created while I was chatting to a friend via MSN, and as a result, his stitching is a little uneven, and he has a rather portly figure. Leonard will, therefore, be accompanying me to work, as my new office is very grey, and he’ll brighten the place up.

So this morning I set about making Pamela. And, as I was concentrating a bit more, she turned out rather well:

She is much more slender than Leonard (she obviously watches what she eats) and her stitching is more obvious, but we’re calling that a decorative detail. So, Pamela is now for sale in my Dawanda shop, looking for a home with anyone who would like to be ever so slightly unnerved by the constant staring of a small felt starfish.

I can now reveal the items I made for Kats’ birthday last week.

First up, a very bad photo of the felt purse/pouch:

The front doesn’t really stick up like that, I had just man-handled it for the photo.

Then I made two pairs of earrings. These are a sort of copy of a pair of earrings we saw somewhere on the web ages ago that Kats said she liked:

And these are the earrings that almost went in the Dawanda shop, but then Kats saw them and *needed* to have them:

This is a handbag charm I made using my very first felted bead (felted bead – squeeee!):

And finally, the birthday card:

I was also planning to make some more earrings for the shop this evening, but I have loop cramp, so I may leave the crafting until tomorrow.

OK, here are a few things I’ve made in the last few weeks. I’ve got some other stuff too, but I can’t show it yet as it’s been made for someone and I don’t want to spoil the surprise.

First up is a felt womb I made for a friend – she wanted one with only one tube. I got some safety eyes from Etsy, and they work really well – much better than the beads I was using:

Then yesterday I made a few items of jewellery. I bought some beads a while ago and wasn’t in the mood to make anything from them, but yesterday, the urge to create hit me.

This is a silver necklace with silver beads – the sparkly one is called a stardust bead, I think. Not sure I will keep this for myself or put it in my shop.

Next is a smoky bead pendant. I wanted some of these to make a bracelet with ribbon a while ago but I couldn’t find them. I saw them in a shop recently but had gone off the bracelet idea so bought one to make a necklace instead.

And finally, the earrings I made which I am keeping for myself. I do love smoky quartz and I’ve got back into earrings in the last year or so.
